Penrith Mountain and Moorland Pony Sale

 

On Friday Penrith & District Farmers' Mart LLP conducted the Annual Show and Sale of Mountain and Moorland ponies with an impressive catalogue of 99 head.  All classes on offer met a firm demand with strong prices being the norm.

 

In the fell pony classes the breed champion was Drybarrows Gillian a 13yr old traditional type brood mare exhibited by Mrs CA Morland, Tebay she later went on to sell for 1600gns, purchased by Messrs Smith.

 

Reserve Champion honours went to the winner of the strong foal class Greenholme Albert.  A true fell type, only off the shap fells a week he was exhibited by the Greenholme Stud, Stoneygill Shap and later went on to make 820gns the buyer being Messrs McIntosh.

 

The top priced lot in the sale was the last fell in the ring, Carltonlima Melody from Mr R Sandham , Leeds.  A striking black filly foal from Heltondale blood lines.  After fierce competition she was knocked down at 2100gns too Mr T B Capstick of the well known Murthwaite Stud.
